I was into competitive sports early on as a child playing football, basketball, and baseball. I even dabbled in Tae Kwon Do for a few years before high school. I was a three-sport athlete at Richland Northeast High School and was part of the 1993 4A High-school State Championship Football team. After high school, I spent 14 years in the Army and was very active in intramural sports like flag football and softball. I spent a lot of time weight training and running to stay physically fit for the Army Physical Fitness test. After my military career, I started training for half marathons and then began weight training heavier and more frequently focusing on bench pressing, squatting, and deadlifting. And then I found CrossFit and everything changed.

After my military career, I started training for half marathons and then began weight training heavier and more frequently focusing on bench pressing, squatting, and deadlifting. And then I found CrossFit and everything changed.

Prior to CrossFit, I was powerlifting; focusing on squatting, deadlifting, and bench pressing heavy. At the time I was 270lbs and was starting my first semester of Nursing school. As nursing school progressed, I had less time to weight train, and gradually fitness was put on hold. After I graduated from Nursing School I was still 270lbs, but not a good 270lbs. As a result of my obesity, my health started to decline, I was dealing with high blood pressure, heartburn, and some obstructive sleep apnea. This was my turning point. I knew I needed to get back in the gym, but didn’t want to pursue powerlifting. One day I was scrolling through social. media and came across a post from a local CrossFit affiliate offering an 8-week fitness challenge. So, I joined the challenge and I have never looked back. I lost 30 lbs during the first six months of doing CrossFit and have been as low as 215 lbs. My blood pressure is normal, heartburn and sleep apnea have resolved and my fitness and strength have improved year after year.

My purpose for coaching is to provide members with the best version of myself. I want members to come into my class, have the best hour of their day, and leave knowing they are 1% better than when they came in. And for them to do that, I have to give them my very best.
