Corey Burgess

I’ve been doing CrossFit for going in 11 years now. It started as a way to just stay in shape and quickly became one of my biggest passions. The biggest life lesson I’ve taken from CrossFit that I apply to my daily life is mental toughness. I have qualified for the quarterfinals and also for the fittest of the coast in my time at lodestar. Growing up in high school I played baseball and football and then in college, I played rugby. My senior year we won our conference and went to the playoffs for the first time in school history. I believe I was drawn to CrossFit after college because of my athletic background growing up and my desire for competition. I quickly learned how great the CrossFit community is and haven’t ever left.

I think the biggest thing CrossFit has done for me is keep me healthy for the last 10 years. Once I graduated college I wasn’t doing any working out and I was up to about 240. I started CrossFit and lost about 20 lbs and have stayed constantly in that 210-220 lb range. CrossFit has also helped me with my mental health. As I stated before it has helped me with my mental toughness and that’s something I apply to my everyday life. But, the community and friends I have made have also helped me through hard stages in life.

I’ve always known I wanted to coach but I just got the courage to do it. I feel like I have a wealth of knowledge I can share with all our athletes at any level. I think giving someone a tip or helping them with something they want to achieve and then seeing that athlete achieve it is the greatest feeling you can have as a coach. My passion is for fitness and my desire is to help others achieve their goals no matter how big or small they are.
